The Regional FOI Office coordinates and oversees the Regional FOIA program by conducting the following activities:

  • develops and reviews Regional FOIA procedures, policies and guidance;
  • reviews Division's procedures;
  • provides advice and training to all Regional personnel who handle FOIA requests;
  • initially receives, logs, and routes all FOIA requests;
  • coordinates fee waiver decisions;
  • maintains the official FOIA files;
  • monitors quality, timeliness, and consistency of responses;
  • monitors and analyzes Regional FOIA activities; handles/coordinates disputes (including billing) and appeals;
  • prepares the Annual Report to Congress;
  • serves as the Regional point of contact for Headquarters, other Federal and state agencies and the private sector; and
  • evaluates and implements new technologies to improve Regional FOIA responsiveness and efficiency.
