Introduction and State Lead Resources
Region 8's Lead Program strives to provide information to the public about sources of lead hazards, health effects of lead poisoning, and established and proposed regulations and resources.
Most of the Lead Program's outreach efforts are through direct mailings, participation at related events and conventions, electronic media (such as this site), telephone calls, and free training sessions on lead regulations. To inquire about these efforts in detail, please contact the Region 8 Lead Program.

Region 8 Lead Program Events and Activities
EPA's lead program provides community outreach and education activities, as well as compliance assistance workshops. Along with other federal, state and local agencies, EPA is committed to the goal of eliminating childhood lead poisoning by 2010. The following efforts are underway:
- Collaborating with other environmental protection and public health agencies within Colorado to develop an action plan to eliminate childhood lead poisoning by 2010
- Collaborating with the Center of Disease Control (CDC) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Healthy Homes Program to coordinate Regional efforts to reach the National goal to "Eliminate Childhood Lead Poisoning by 2010"
- Collaborating with North Dakota's Department of Health to target populations at risk for lead poisoning and providing outreach to the areas identified
- Providing compliance assistance in the form of workshops, presentations and mailings to the regulated community on 1018 lead disclosure rule and the 406(b) lead-safe remodeling practices rule
- Certifying Lead abatement firms supervisors, workers and lead inspectors and risk assessors; and accrediting lead trainers
- Using the Region 8 GIS database to create maps that display the occurrence of elevated blood lead levels in children and the location of housing built prior to 1960
- Partnering with Region 8 Tribes to educate about lead in the home and lead poisoning prevention
