Protecting Island Communities

EPA plays an important role in the Pacific islands, where our goals are to safeguard public health and the environment. EPA works to improve infrastructure and provide resources, technical assistance and training to support the development of environmental protection capacity in the islands.

EPA and L'Oreal Research Collaboration

An innovative partnership may lead to promising alternatives to traditional animal-based toxicity testing. EPA's ToxCast program screens chemicals to understand their potential impact on biological processes. This project will utilize ToxCast in evaluating cosmetics.

Striving for a Sustainable San Joaquin Valley

EPA's San Joaquin Valley Strategic Plan prioritizes partnerships with communities along with enforcing the law to improve the environment and economy of the nation's premiere agricultural region. Current efforts include a community garden in Fresno and, in Manteca, reducing air pollution from a landfill.

Hazardous Waste - Handling it Safely

Western Digital, which makes components for computer hard drives, violated the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act by failing to properly label and seal containers. The company also failed to control tank emissions and monitor equipment.
