Follow Up Sampling Activities, Highway 218 Perchlorate Site, Hills, Iowa
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Region 7 will be visiting the community of Hills, Iowa the week of March 13 - 17, 2006. The purpose of the visit is to conduct follow up sampling activities at certain homes affected by perchlorate groundwater contamination, and to perform follow up testing at certain homes that previously received Reverse Osmosis (POU RO) treatment systems. This is the second phase of sampling activities since July 2005.
This sampling event is in support of EPA’s commitment to conduct follow up sampling activities every six months, and to provide clean drinking water to those residences affected by perchlorate groundwater contamination above health-based levels for a temporary period of two to three years. EPA will ensure that the RO Units are operating appropriately to purify the drinking water.
EPA and State representatives will be available on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Hills Community Center, 110 E. Main Street between the hours of 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. to answer questions, and to address concerns from community members. The sampling will be conducted during the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. each day, and should not disrupt normal day-to-day activities in the area.
