Revenue and Non-revenue Mileage for Private and For-hire SmartWay Fleets
This graph shows the total revenue and non-revenue miles for private and for-hire SmartWay truck fleets, based on Carrier Partner data for 2011. (There are about five times as many SmartWay for-hire fleets as there are SmartWay private fleets.) For SmartWay fleets, private fleet revenue miles average 88.7% of total miles; for-hire fleet revenue miles average 87.4% of total miles.
Note that not all non-revenue miles are empty miles; for example, a contract may include payment for return miles after freight delivery.
