SmartWay Finance Program

About the SmartWay Finance Program

The SmartWay Finance Program funds competitive grants to establish national, regional, or state financing programs that provide financial incentives (e.g., low-cost revolving loans, rebates, etc.) to vehicle/equipment owners for the purchase of fuel-saving and emission-reducing technologies.

In 2008, EPA awarded $3.4 million to three loan programs that help small trucking companies reduce fuel costs and emissions. Under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, EPA awarded $30 million to support the development of five financing programs for trucks, school buses and non-road vehicles/equipment. In 2009-2010, the SmartWay Finance Program awarded $13.5 million to support four truck financing programs.

Are you an eligible entity interested in applying for the SmartWay Finance Program Competitive Grant?

The Diesel Emissions Reduction Program (DERA) enables EPA to offer funding assistance on a competitive basis to eligible entities for projects that will significantly reduce diesel emissions.  The DERA funding is divided between four programs, including the National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program; the National Clean Diesel Emerging Technology Program; the SmartWay Finance Program; and the State Clean Diesel Grant program. EPA's SmartWay Finance Program helps accelerate the deployment of energy efficient and emission control technologies by funding innovative finance programs that help vehicle/equipment owners invest in fuel saving and emission reduction technologies.

If you are interested in the SmartWay Finance Program click on the Grants - DERA tab for more information and eligibility requirements.
