Draft Groundwater Remedy Completion Strategy

Overview

During Superfund cleanups, EPA works to protect groundwater, a precious and finite resource, in coordination with its state, tribal and local counterparts. To that end, EPA has developed, and is seeking stakeholder input on, a draft groundwater remedy completion strategy designed to help achieve contaminated groundwater cleanup goals. While the draft strategy features site-specific metrics to evaluate progress and encourages re-evaluation of site cleanup strategies if cleanup progress is not reasonable, it does not: direct site-specific remedy decisions; alter existing statutes, regulations, guidance or policy; or change existing state or tribal groundwater classifications or groundwater use approaches.

Comments on the draft strategy are due 12/20/13 and may be sent to: gwcompletionstrategy@epa.gov
