EPA Radiation Guidance for CERCLA: Community Involvement Tools for Radioactively Contaminated Superfund Sites

Superfund Radiation Risk Assessment: A Community Toolkit (OSWER No. 9230.1-48, May, 2014). This toolkit presents a collection of 22 fact sheets to help the general public understand more about EPA's risk assessment process used at radioactively contaminated Superfund sites. It also provides brief overviews on EPA's risk assessment calculators and provides information regarding radionuclides that are commonly found at Superfund sites. This toolkit will be of interest to general public, site decision makers and Community Involvement Coordinators at radioactively contaminated sites being addressed by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA).

The video describes the Superfund risk assessment process for radioactive contamination: what it is, how it works, and how members of the public can be involved. This video will be of interest to the general public, site decision-makers, and community involvement coordinators at radioactively contaminated sites being addressed by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA).

This website contains additional information on Community Involvement which are used frequently by Community Involvement Coordinators. Although this information does not focus on radioactive contaminants, Community Involvement Coordinators at CERCLA sites with radioactive contamination should find them useful. This is because at CERCLA sites, the process EPA uses to addresses radiological contaminants is the same as that used to address non-radiological (chemical) contaminants.
