Contract Laboratory Program
Over the last 27 years, the Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) has provided EPA Regions analyses on more than 1.4 million samples. CLP continues to provide comprehensive analytical, quality assurance, and data management support for sampling events of all sizes, while improving overall data quality and reducing total analytical costs for the national Superfund program. Currently, CLP routine analyses address over 171 target analytes including over a wide range of metals, mercury, cyanide, VOCs, pesticides/PCBs, and semivolatiles.
The CLP's core site support includes:
- Quick and easy access to a national network of laboratories, available to accept samples 365 days of the year.
- The flexibility to order only the analyses relevant to a particular site.
- A modified analysis option that permits users the ability to customize services to address complex environmental matrices, faster turnaround times, lower detection limits and/or additional target analytes.
- Electronically validated data in customized electronic reports within 24-48 hours of data receipt. The data review process assesses CLP data for over 3,500 contract compliance and quality control parameters.
- Turnaround times (TAT) for data delivery that include 7, 14, or 21 days, as well as expedited 48-72 hr TATs, among other options.
- Continuous monitoring of laboratory performance by reviewing 100% of the received data.
- Centralized business management efficiencies in procurement, sample tracking, and invoice processing that eliminate duplication of effort.
- Central financial control systems that collect and disseminate financial information to EPA management and the Regions for budgetary and cost recovery activities.
- Innovative use of information technology that enables EPA to realize substantial cost savings in the processing, review and management of analytical services.
