Air Contamination
"ARARs Fact Sheet: Compliance with the Clean Air Act and Associated
Air Quality Requirements" (September 1992)
Provides updated guidance on compliance with the Clean
Air Act, as amended November 1990, and related air quality rules under
other environmental statutes. Addresses statutory and regulatory changes
that have occurred subsequent to the publication of the CERCLA Compliance
with other Laws Manual, Parts I & II (1989). [28 pp]

Ground Water Contamination
Key OSWER
Ground Water Guidance and Reports
Provides a comprehensive selection of ground water guidance
on subjects to include: ARARs, various Treatment Technologies, Monitored
Natural Attenuation, Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (NAPLS), Performance Evaluation/Close-Out,
Remedy Selection, RODs, Removal Action, Site Assessment, Use Determinations,
and Technical Impracticability.
"Focus Areas for Headquarters Support for Regional Decision-Making" (May 1996)
Identifies selected areas that represent the current focus
of OSRTI's national Regional coordination effort. A discussion of ground
water policy is included as one of the focus areas. [24 pp]

Sediments Contamination
"Principles for Managing Contaminated Sediment Risks at Hazardous
Waste Sites"1 (February 2002)
Presents eleven risk management principles to use as
guidelines for site assessment and response when addressing contaminated
sediment sites. This directive is consistent with the strategies of
the NRC 2001 report "A Risk Management Strategy for PCB-Contaminated
Sediments." Headquarters consultation requirements are included. [11

"In Situ Treatment of Contaminated Sediments" (December 1998)
Provides a summary of in situ treatment technologies for
contaminated sediments written by a National Network of Environmental Management
Studies Fellow. Contains data gathered from a range of sources
including project documents, periodicals, Web pages, and personal
communication. The sources were not independently confirmed. [25 pp]

A Risk-Management Strategy for PCB-Contaminated
Sediments (2001)
At the request of Congress, EPA commissioned the National Research Council
to investigate contaminated sediment site strategies and provide recommendations
for addressing such sites. Provides a risk-based
framework for developing and implementing strategies to manage PCB-contaminated
sediments. Although focused on PCBs, much of the information is applicable
to other contaminants. You may view or order the report from the National Academy Press Web
site for a fee. (446 p.)
Guide to GLNPO
Assessment and Remediation of Contaminated Sediments (ARCS) Reports
ARCS was an integrated program for the development and testing of assessment
and remedial action alternatives for contaminated sediments. Provides technical reports containing results of assessments of contaminated
sediments by the Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO) of the U.S.
EPA between 1988 and 1994. Although the studies were focused on specific
sites, these reports contain information applicable to any contaminated
sediment site.
EPA Technology Transfer Highlights
To access Remediation of Contaminated Sediments, select "Browse Pub. Catalog" from the sidebar and enter the EPA Document Number (EPA/625/6-91/028). The Handbook was published by ORD to provide guidance
on approaches for remediating contaminated sediment sites. Topics covered
include physical/chemical characteristics of sediments, sediment toxicity
assessment methods, sampling methods, dredging techniques, pretreatment,
treatment technologies, and disposal and containment options. Data from
sediment treatability studies for various technologies are provided.
Soil Contamination
Soil
Screening Guidance
Tool for screening
contaminated National Priorities List (NPL) sites that are not affected
with radioactive contaminants. The Soil Screening Guidance (SSG) presents
a tiered framework for developing risk-based, soil screening levels (SSLs)
for protection of human health. This page provides links to several soil
screening doucments available.
Soil
Screening Guidance for Radionuclides
Provides a framework for developing soil screening levels
(SSLs) for radionuclides, focusing primarily on a simple methodology for
developing site-specific screening levels, but also including generic
soil screening levels and detailed models for more complete site conditions.
This page contains links to several technical and guidance doucuments.
"Presumptive Remedy for Metals-in-Soils Sites" (September 1999)
Identifies a presumptive remedy for metals-in-soil sites,
and summarizes technical factors (including limitations on the applicability
of this directive) that should be considered when selecting a presumptive
remedy for these sites. Development has been a joint effort between the
EPA and the Department of Energy (DOE). [48 pp]
