Superfund sampling organizations are required to provide analytical services information for non-CLP work to ANSETS (see directive 9240.0-2C (PDF) (5pp, 225K) for details on ANSETS requirements). Non-CLP data is generated by a contractor or subcontractor at mobile and/or in-house laboratories. Requirements for field screening are determined by the Regions. Waste profile data is exempt from this requirement.

There are three major methods of submitting ANSETS data. Links to these methods, including a description and instructions are provided below:

    1. XML Submission through the SMO Portal (preferred);
    2. Web-based Submission Form;
    3. Batch Submissions
    PLEASE NOTE!!

    Beginning on April 1, 2013 ANSETS submissions will only be accepted via XML Submission through the SMO Portal.

XML Submission through the Sample Management Office (SMO) Portal

Scribe is a sampling tool that allows samplers to automate field documentation and export data electronically. The Traffic Report/Chain of Custody Report (TR/COC) export files from Scribe capture most of the essential ANSETS data and is a direct and effective way for Regions to meet ANSETS requirements. Samplers can submit the TR/COC export file (an XML document) to the SMO Portal using the Submit Chain of Custody task.  Samplers must have an active SMO Portal account in order to submit a Chain of Custody XML file.  You may register for a new SMO Portal account or log into your existing SMO Portal account at https://epasmoweb.fedcsc.com/Exit EPA Disclaimer.

XML export files should be submitted on a monthly basis, no later than the 15th of the month after sampling activities occurred. Instructions for submitting XML files may be found on the ESDS portion of this Web site.

Web-based Submission Form

Users can submit ANSETS data by completing and submitting a Web-based submission form. Users should visit the ANSETS Web Collection Exit EPA Disclaimer site, and follow the instructions there to register and submit their data.

ANSETS data sent via this method should be submitted on a monthly basis, no later than the 15th of the month after sampling activities occurred.

Batch Submissions

Arrangements can be made for Regions who wish to maintain their own internal tracking systems and provide batch submission of data to the EPA Analytical Services Branch (ASB). If you are interested in this option, please contact Dominique White at (703) 603-9093 or white.dominique@epa.gov.

For more information regarding ANSETS, please contact Dominique White via email at white.dominique@epa.gov.
