Whether a company owns one or more Superfund sites and would like to put those properties into reuse, or a developer hopes to acquire a well-situated Superfund property for a revitalization project, EPA can provide guidance to help address concerns and assistance to move reuse forward. Reusing a Superfund site can create many positive outcomes, including the transformation of stigmatized properties into community assets and the generation of jobs and tax revenues.
Case studies profiling some of the tools and lessons learned from successful collaborations between EPA and private sector companies to bring Superfund sites to beneficial reuse include:
- Private sector PRPs, who, in some instances, have gone above and beyond simply cleaning up a site to find ways of putting the site back to beneficial use.
- Non-liable private sector companies, who have chosen to reuse a Superfund property over developing a Greenfield property.
