Basic Query Instructions
| Search for site information based on the following fields:
|
The Basic Query allows you to conduct a search of the nation's hazardous waste sites against commonly requested search fields, such as: site name, state, zip code, and contaminants of concern. Once you have selected your search criteria and submitted your query, a standardized report page will be generated. The report will list the active hazardous waste sites that match your criteria, along with hyperlinks to available NPL site information products including a site listing narrative, site progress profile, ROD information from the Record of Decision System (RODS), and an Area Map for NPL sites. If this is your first time querying hazardous waste site information, then this is a good place to start. You can begin filling out your Basic Query Form now or view more detailed instructions below. Or you can fill out the Advanced Query Form, which offers much greater flexibility and more choices to search for hazardous waste site information. When searching by site name, be aware that sites may be identified by multiple names. To search by all site names, including aliases, check the box marked include Alternate Site Names. Checking this box also displays the aliases in the returned results. |
Searching for information about Superfund hazardous waste sites using the Basic Query involves determining the search options to enter or select for available fields. Search results for the Basic Query will be returned in a standardized format.
The Basic Query Form allows you to select information for one or more of the eleven search fields. For each field, you may either enter text or make a selection from the drop-down list. To obtain the definition of a particular search field, simply click on that term. You may change the information entered at any time by clicking on Reset Form (located at the top and bottom of the search form).
When given the option Multiple Selections Allowed for a specific search field, you may select or enter more than one selection for that particular field. Multiple selections are made by separating the entries with commas in text fields or by holding down the CTRL key while clicking on the selection items with your pointer. If you are having difficulty, use the help feature in your web browser.
When you are finished entering your search options, click on Submit Query at either the top or bottom of the form, to obtain the results of your query. Note that the results are most specific when you enter specific search parameters.
The results will be organized in a standard report format. This page will display the State, City, Site Name, and NPL Status, followed by hyperlinks to the following information, if available: Site Listing Narrative, Site Progress Profile, ROD Info, and Area Map. The Site Listing Narrative contains a description of the site at the time of listing on the NPL. The Site Progress Profile contains the latest information available about the site. ROD Info links to the Record of Decision System (RODS) web page for the site which provides links to ROD Abstracts and Full-text RODs containing information about technologies being used to clean up the site. The Area Map provides an interactive map of the individual NPL site and the surrounding area.
