Energy, Biofuels & Climate Change:
Assessments & Performance Measures

About Policies & Programs Research, Tools and Technologies Assessments & Performance Measures

AgSTAR Program. This program jointly sponsored by EPA and the Departments of Agriculture and Energy encourages the use of methane (biogas) recovery technologies to assist in managing manure stored as liquid or slurries at confined animal feeding operations (CAFO).

Air Pollution Data. This site provides links to air pollution data such as the highest annual ozone level in each state, location of air pollution monitoring sites, and sources of air pollution.

Climate Change Economics and Legislation.  Research analyzes the economic and environmental effects of programs and strategies intended to mitigate climate change.

Climate Change Synthesis and Assessment Reports. This site summarizes the publications of various federal agencies that address the five goals adopted by the U.S. Climate Change Science Program.

Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). This Department of Transportation site describes minimum-efficiency levels for vehicles sold in the U.S.

Electronic Report on the Environment (ROE). EPA publishes the Draft ROE, using available indicators and data concerning national environmental and human health conditions.

Energy Prices and Trends. This U.S. Dept. of Energy site provides energy data, forecasts, and analyses.

Environmental Indicators Initiative. This program improves EPA's ability to report on the status of and trends in environmental conditions and their impacts on human health and the nation's natural resources.

Fuel and Fuel Additives. EPA standards for fuel quality help protect public health and the environment from emissions of harmful gas and particulate matter from engines and motor vehicles.

Fuel Economy. This EPA site provides links to information for consumers on fuel economy, including laws that govern fuel economy testing and reporting and how federal agencies enforce those laws.

Green Vehicle Guide. This EPA guide allows you to look up fuel economy and tailpipe emissions for cars and trucks produced since 2000.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions. This site provides basic data on the growth of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory. This site provides a broad overview of all U.S. greenhouse gas emission sources and sinks and discusses the primary drivers for changes in emissions.

Greening EPA's Fleet. About one-third of vehicles in EPA's national fleet are use alternative fuel or other advanced technology (e.g., hybrid and electric).

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Program, IPCC provides a comprehensive and objective assessment of the state of the world’s knowledge on climate change.

Mobile Source Emissions. This site provides information on air pollution from vehicles and other moving engines and solutions developed by EPA and others to help control this pollution.

Modeling U.S. Climate Change. This site describes the application of computer models to assess climate change.

SAVEnergy Audits (PDF) (2 pp, 210K, About PDF). This Department of Energy program undertakes comprehensive audits to assist federal agencies in identifying and implementing measures for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation.

Vehicle Standards and Regulations. This site links to federal and California regulations for controlling air pollution from cars and light trucks.
