About Policies & Programs Research, Tools and Technologies Assessments & Performance Measures

Air Toxics. This page provides links to information concerning the causes and quantity of air toxics and what EPA is doing to reduce it.

Children’s Health. As one of the populations most vulnerable to environmental contaminants, children and their health have been a special focus of EPA programs and research.

Clean Processes. EPA researchers develop, demonstrate, and estimate the environmental benefits of clean technologies for pollution prevention, recycling, and reuse.

Endocrine Disruptors. The study of endocrine disruptors - chemicals that may disrupt endocrine systems of humans and wildlife - is one of EPA's top research priorities.

Green Chemistry. Green chemistry promotes innovative chemical technologies that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture, and use of chemical products.

Green Engineering Program. Green Engineering is the design, commercialization, and use of technically sound and economically viable processes and products while minimizing generation of pollution at the source and harmful environmental impacts.

Health Impacts on Susceptible Populations. The goal of EPA research in this area is to gain an understanding of the biological basis for the observed differences in susceptibility.

Human Health Research. This program provides a strategic approach to develop and evaluate the methods, tools, and data needed to improve risk assessments to protect the public.

Industries of the Future Program. This Department of Energy program aims to advance national energy and environmental goals by providing cost-shared funding to selected research and development projects in eight energy- and waste- intensive industrial sectors.

International Best Practices. This gateway site provides links to information and resources on innovative environmental projects and programs around the world.

International Industrial Ecology. This site describes international manufacturing innovations such as industrial ecology, eco-efficiency, cleaner production, and lean manufacturing.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). LCA contributes to better decisions through improved understanding of the impacts on human health and the environment of products, processes, and activities.

Nanotechnology. As part of the government-wide National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), EPA is supporting nanotechnology research while evaluating its regulatory responsibility to protect human health and the environment.

Safe Pesticides/Safe Products Research. This is a multidisciplinary research effort that is providing the methods, models, and data needed by EPA to reduce risks from chemicals used in our daily lives.

Sustainable Tools and Technologies. This site advances the understanding, development, and application of technologies and methods of preventing, controlling, and removing environmental risks to human health and ecology.

System Analysis: Simulation and Design. EPA's Simulation and Design Team develops computerized approaches to achieving environmentally beneficial changes in manufacturing processes and products and measuring the progress achieved.
