Celebrating 25 Years of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act

What is the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Program

TRI is a database containing data on disposal or other releases of over 650 toxic chemicals from thousands of U.S. facilities and information about how facilities manage those chemicals through recycling, energy recovery, and treatment. One of TRI's primary purposes is to inform communities about toxic chemical releases to the environment.

EPA is hosting a training webinar, entitled "Showcasing Sustainability in Your TRI Report."

EPA is hosting a Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) training webinar on June 6, 2012 from 2-3 pm (EDT), entitled "Showcasing Sustainability in Your TRI Report." The webinar will focus on the pollution prevention portion of the TRI form, which offers facilities the opportunity to report and describe pollution prevention activities and other environmentally friendly practices related to listed toxic chemicals. Providing this information enables TRI to present a more complete picture of a facility's management of toxic chemicals and helps make TRI a more effective tool for highlighting and promoting pollution prevention successes. To learn more about reporting pollution prevention activities to TRI and about EPA's plans to utilize and promote this information, we invite you to register for the webinar.

EPA Finalizes Rule for TRI Reporting in Indian Country

EPA has finalized a rule that provides tribal governments with the right to directly receive TRI information from facilities located in their Indian country. The rule also clarifies the rights of tribal leaders to take an active role in TRI through petitions to modify the TRI chemical list or through requests to add a facility within their Indian country to the TRI Program. This action is part of EPA's ongoing efforts to improve access to information on toxic chemical releases that may affect the local communities in Indian country.

New Version of TRI-CHIP Available

Version 2.06 of TRI-CHIP (TRI - Chemical Hazard Information Profiles) is now available. TRI-CHIP is a downloadable Microsoft Access database that allows easy access to toxicity information from multiple data sources on chemicals included in the TRI list. Searches can be customized across a single chemical, a set of specific chemicals, or to filter data based on adverse health effects and/or quantitative toxicity values. This tool is updated periodically based upon changes in information available by the various data sources.
