TRI Reporting Options

The table below will help facilities understand why TRI-MEweb is the preferred reporting option to comply with the reporting requirements under Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know (EPCRA) Section 313 and Pollution Prevention Act (PPA) section 6607.

    What you need to do to get started
    New facilities reporting to TRI in RY 2009
    New CDX-TRI-MEweb account users will automatically get the following:
  • Obtain a new TRI identification number (TRIFID).
  • Obtain your TRI facility access key
  • This option will no longer be available in 2010 to submit RY2009 TRI reports.
  • New reporting facilities will be assigned a TRIFID when TRI report is received by EPA.
  • Enter "New Facility" on your paper TRI form in the TRIFID field.
  • Facilities that have reported in previous years to TRI
  • Login to your CDX account with your previous year login name and password.
  • Use the access key your facility used in previous to access your CDX account.
  • This option will no longer be available in 2010 to submit RY2009 TRI reports.
  • Enter the TRIFID identification number that was assigned in previous TRI reports for your facility or call the TRI help desk to obtain your TRIFID.

  • Facilities that do not reside in States that have data exchange systems, will require a paper or disk submission to meet EPCRA reporting requirements.
  • Facilities reporting dioxin releases can only do so using TRI-MEweb.
  • Facility will not be able to report releases in RY2009 using TRI-MEdesktop /cd, instead must use TRI-MEweb.
  • TRI-MEdesktop /cd may be use to file new or revised TRI forms prior to RY2004
  • TRI-MEdesktop/cd does not work on PC's with MS Vista operating systems.
  • Paper submissions require more time to process given their high incidence for errors.
  • Some data fields require complex calculations that can be found in the RFI.
  • Any errors on forms will generate an official notification of non-complaince to facility.

  • TRI-MEweb will not send paper TRI forms to EPA, any improper paper submissions sent to EPA may be considered invalid.
  • Facilities that do not reside in States that have data exchange systems, will require a paper or disk submission which TRI-MEweb can generate for you.
  • This option will no longer be available in 2010 to submit RY2009 TRI reports.
  • Paper submissions require more time to process given their high incidence for errors.

  • For any TRI reports submitted between RY2005-RY2009 use TRI-MEweb.
  • For any TRI reports submitted prior to RY2004 download the corresponding TRI-MEdesktop/cd software.
  • The most current forms are found in the Reporting, Forms and Instruction (RFI) report for the current reporting year. Go to RFI web page
  • Certification of TRI Forms R or A A certifying official must have registered their electronic signature agreement with EPA, and have an active CDX account before being able to certified their facility's TRI forms to EPA and their state. Uncertified TRI forms will not comply with EPCRA reporting requirements. A certifying official must certify at the computer the preparer is using or will be sent an email with a link to certify forms. Uncertified TRI forms will not comply with EPCRA reporting requirements. A certifying official must signed any paper submissions sent to EPA or their state.
