FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS) for Method 17

Is there a maximum temperature limit for this method?

The nominal or standard filter temperature when sampling for particulate matter to comply with most EPA regulations is 120 degrees C (refer to Method 5). Method 17 is a modification of Method 5 that is only applied in EPA regulations in those specific instances where concentrations of particulate matter are known to always be independent of temperature, at least to the highest temperature that might occur in the stack. Please read Sections 1.1 and 1.2 of Method 17 for a more complete explanation.
