This method requires the use of 1,1,1-trichloroethane for probe wash. This product is apparently no longer available or very hard to get. Is there an alternative available for use?

EPA has approved a modification to Method 5A to allow the use of an alternative solvent for the 1,1,1-trichloroethane. The alternative solvent is 1-bromopropane. The approved alternative is posted under Methods, Category B, Source Category Approved Alternative Methods. It is ALT-067, Approval of Modifications to Method 5A for Various Rules.
