- Certification Programs for Electronics Recyclers
EPA encourages all electronics recyclers to become certified by demonstrating to an accredited, independent third-party auditor that they meet specific standards to safely recycle and manage electronics. Currently two accredited certification standards exist: the Responsible Recycling Practices (R2) and the e-StewardsŪ standards. We also encourage customers to choose certified electronics recyclers.

Designed by the Federal Electronics Challenge (FEC) to aid federal agencies and facilities in the initial evaluation of an electronics recycler, this checklist has broader applicability. It can guide you in answering some basic questions about an electronics recycler.

Environmental Benefits Calculator
Estimates the environmental and economic benefits of purchasing EPEAT-registered products, improvements in equipment operation and reuse and recycling practices. It can also calculate the energy and greenhouse gas savings generated by reuse and recycling efforts alone.

- The Life Cycle of a Cell Phone (PDF) (2 pp, 648K) | en Español (PDF) (2 pp, 540K) – Geared towards 6th to 8th graders, this educational poster shows the life cycle of a cell phone from obtaining raw materials through manufacture, packaging, distribution, useful life, and disposal. It explains the importance of life cycle management and encourages reuse and recycling. The poster also contains games and activities. Available in both English and Spanish.
