Products in Development

WaterSense is continually working to expand the number of water-efficient products and service programs that qualify for the label.

When it has enough information to move forward on a product category, WaterSense issues a Notice of Intent (NOI) to inform the public that it intends to carry out work to develop a specification. The NOI also describes additional data needs or questions that need to be answered before a draft specification is developed. WaterSense might delay developing a specification to allow for additional research or determine to develop guidance as an alternative to a specification. Draft specifications are released for public review and comment before being issued as a final specification.

WaterSense is currently considering the following water-saving product categories and service programs for specification development:

• Private-Use Lavatory, Public Lavatory, and Kitchen Faucets (NOI to revise the current specification for private-use lavatory faucets is available for review)
• Spray Sprinkler Nozzles
• Point-of-Use Reverse Osmosis Systems
• Pool Covers (inactive)
• Bath and Shower Diverters (inactive)
• Cation Exchange Water Softeners (inactive)
• Can my product earn a label?

Future Specification Activities

WaterSense periodically reviews its existing specifications to ensure that they effectively differentiate water-efficient and high-performing products within the marketplace. The Product Specification Review page provides more information about EPA's specification review and revision process.

WaterSense receives many requests to develop specifications for products that are not currently eligible for the WaterSense label. Information about the process EPA follows to develop specifications and the data needed is available on the How are WaterSense Specifications Developed? page.

Stakeholders with information or data related to the applicability and effectiveness of WaterSense specifications in the marketplace, or general comments about the efficiency and performance criteria within a product specification, can submit feedback to the WaterSense Helpline.
