Public Notice: Cherokee County National Priorities List (NPL) Superfund Site, Cherokee County, Kansas
Summary
Administrative Record Available for Emergency Removal Action
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has compiled the Administrative Record (AR) for an Emergency Removal Action at the Cherokee County National Priorities List (NPL) Superfund Site (site) in southeastern Kansas. The site is part of the historic lead and zinc Tri-State Mining District in Kansas.
The AR is the official site file that contains technical documents with respect to a response action at the site. EPA developed this document collection to form a clear understanding of the site action.
EPA’s response action included remediating (cleaning up) lead at a residential property at the site, under Project Area/Operable Unit (OU) 3, Removal 10. The wastes were transported to an on-site repository.
Lead is a toxic metal that is harmful if inhaled or ingested and can pose serious health risks, particularly to children under 7 years old, as well as pregnant women and nursing mothers. Learn more about how to protect your family from lead hazards.
Site project information is available to the public at web repositories, including this AR File #67624.
