2021 P3 Expo - Green & Sustainable Water Purification Membranes
University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte, NC

We have developed new cellulose based ion exchange membranes for water purification. These materials remove several classes of emerging and known contaminants. The materials are synthesized using a green process and they are regeneratable and reusable so that they provide a sustaianable solution to this human health challenge.
Our team is led by a PhD student and a Masters student at UNC Charlotte. The student participants include high school students and undergraduate students.
The project team consists of two undergraduate students and a professor. One is a graduating senior chemistry major (Khoa Tran), and the other is a junior biophysics major (Ricardo Zamora). Dr. Richard Lombardini is an Associate Professor of Physics and PI of project.
