The 2024 National Ambient Air Monitoring Conference, sponsored by EPA in conjunction with the Association of Air Pollution Control Agencies (AAPCA) and the National Association of Clean Air Agencies (NACAA) is a must for federal, state, local and tribal air pollution organizations involved with operating, planning, or managing air monitoring networks and reporting data to AQS, and/or AIRNOW. Essential training on air monitoring topics will help prepare you for future challenges of air monitoring.
Visit the conference website for additional details on the preliminary agenda, attendee and hotel information, and information for exhibitors.
Call for Papers and Posters
DEADLINE CLOSED MARCH 29
Are you interested in presenting a paper or a poster at the 2024 National Ambient Air Monitoring Conference, August 12-15, in New Orleans? Great! We want to hear from you. While anything related to ambient air pollution monitoring is fair game, we have particular interest in speakers and presenters for the following categories:
- Air Toxics – Including source-oriented air toxics monitoring projects, reports from Community Scale Air Toxics Monitoring grants, and research and development surrounding novel and innovative methods for measuring air toxics in the ambient air.
- Criteria Gas Monitoring (CO, NO2, O3, and SO2) – Including the analysis of data and evaluation of methods related to gaseous criteria pollutants and compliance with the NAAQS.
- Particulate Matter Monitoring (PM25, PM10, Speciation) - Including data analysis, methods evaluations, and air quality planning best practices for identifying and addressing particulate matter in the ambient air.
- Community Air Monitoring – Including projects that engage and communicate study results with community stakeholders in monitoring for smoke during wildfires, evaluating non-regulatory technologies (e.g. sensors), and providing best practices for implementing community monitoring studies.
- Tribal Air Monitoring – Including examples of air monitoring studies centering around meaningful collaboration and engagement with Tribal air agencies in planning and achieving Tribal air quality goals.
- Quality Assurance – Including experiences in implementing or improving the quality system, addressing Technical System Audit (TSA) findings, and QA challenges and lessons learned in evaluating measurement methods and in improving data review processes.
- Photochemical Assessment Monitoring – Including successes in developing and implementing Enhanced Monitoring Plans, experiences with Automatic Gas Chromatographs (Auto GCs), and the collection and use of ceilometer data.
- Automation in Ambient Air Monitoring – Including the conversion from manual to automated methods, automating the remote operations of monitors, remotely accessing and reporting data, and automated QA/QC checks within ambient air monitoring programs.
- Special and Complex Pollution Issues – Including air pollution monitoring approaches for special and complex pollution issues that do not align well in the other categories.
Please send your abstracts to us at AirMonitoring@epa.gov, with the words "NAAMC abstract" in the subject line, followed by a brief project name or description of your abstract. For example:
Subject: NAAMC abstract – considerations for nighttime O3 measurements
Please try to provide your abstract using 11-point font, and no more than one page in length. Please also provide a one-paragraph speaker/presenter bio. We will try to fit as many presentations into the appropriate sessions as we can. If we cannot fit you into a speaking session, we will check back with you to see if you are willing to bring a poster instead. Lastly, please indicate if you are only interested in presenting your work on a poster.
