FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., Sept. 28, 2007) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 7 staff will participate in the American Lung Association’s first annual Clean Air Challenge 5K Run/Walk tomorrow. This event, one of the region’s celebrations of Children’s Health Month, will benefit Lung Association research, programs and other initiatives in the Kansas City area.

EPA will also have booths at the event with staff available to talk with patrons about indoor air quality and asthma. EPA wants to raise awareness about asthma and how to help children breathe easier.

October is Children’s Health Month, when EPA brings awareness to children’s health protection. EPA celebrates 10 years of protecting children’s health this year. EPA established the Office of Children's Health Protection in 1997 to make the health protection of children a fundamental goal of public health and environmental protection in the United States and around the world. EPA has an ongoing program to protect children where they live, learn and play, because it is essential to ensure that the environment is safe and healthy, now and for future generations.
