EPA AND MASSACHUSETTS DEP TO HOLD PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING ON SUTTON BROOK DISPOSAL AREA

BOSTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection are hosting a public information meeting on February 7th from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Trahan Elementary School cafeteria on Salem Street in Tewksbury, MA, to update the community on cleanup activities at McDonald Road, the Wilmington Disposal Area and Rocco's Landfill (Sutton Brook Disposal Area) in Wilmington and Tewksbury, MA.

Progress at three areas is outlined below:

    • EPA is currently working at the Rocco's Landfill site and has transported approximately 7,000 tons of contaminated soil for disposal at an EPA approved facility.
    • EPA has completed initial excavation activities and is investigating a second area of the Wilmington Disposal Area to determine if excavation of contaminated soil and drums is necessary.
    • Under close EPA supervision, contractors have removed and disposed of drums and contaminated soil from the McDonald Road site. That cleanup will be complete with EPA's approval of a final report that is expected to soon.
