Citizens Coordinating Council Meeting on November 5th for the General Electric / Housatonic River Site

BOSTON - The next meeting of the Citizens Coordinating Council for the General Electric / Housatonic River site will be on Wednesday, November 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Berkshire Community College in the Susan B. Anthony Center in Pittsfield, Mass. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), GE and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection will update the Council on the progress of the cleanup for the 1 ½ Mile Reach of the Housatonic River. A representative of the Trustees will discuss the process being undertaken to develop a Restoration Plan for the natural resource damages (NRD) recovery allocated to the geographic area of Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts SubCouncil, consisting of three members of the Trustee agencies and two ex-officio delegates, will also be holding a meeting open to the public from 3:00 -5:00 pm on November 25, 2003, at the Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield, Mass. The agenda for this meeting will include discussion of 1) a schedule and next steps required for the NRD Restoration Plan and 2) a proposal to fund, as an Emergency Restoration Project, the construction of a Riverwalk adjacent to a segment of the 1 ½ Mile Reach of the Housatonic River.
