Chicago company wins EPA innovation research contract

CHICAGO (Mar. 2, 2007) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will give a $70,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract to Integrated Genomics Inc., 2201 W. Campbell Park Drive, Chicago, Ill. The money will enable the company to develop a method to produce butanol from biomass that is economically competitive with the chemical synthesis of butanol from petroleum. The company is one of 36 nationally to win a SBIR contract.

The purpose of the SBIR program is to strengthen the role of small businesses in federally funded research and development, and help develop a stronger national base for technical innovation. An SBIR small business is defined as a for-profit organization with no more than 500 employees.

EPA solicits research proposals for SBIR grants each year. The next Phase I solicitation opens on March 15 and closes May 16, 2007. For more information go to https://www.epa.gov/ncer/sbir.
