Developing Our STEM Outreach Programs
EPA-Cincinnati is making vital investments to inspire, cultivate, and develop exceptional talent to build a strong Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) workforce.
EPA-Cincinnati is focused on fostering a sense of empowerment and belonging for our current and future workforce. We're building a program to provide a continuum of opportunities for students starting in kindergarten all the way through their college or university education and early professional career.
We hope to attract a diverse group of students to STEM through learning opportunities that spark interest and provide community and academic connections to EPA’s mission to protect public health and the environment.
Scientists and staff at EPA-Cincinnati can offer mentorship and have expertise in research areas including water & groundwater, land and contaminated/Superfund sites, emergency response & homeland security, and risk, crisis, & health communications.

STEM Outreach & Community Education

EPA-Cincinnati’s STEM Program delivers tools for students and educators to learn and succeed. EPA-Cincinnati is looking for partner schools (K-12 and university) to increase participation in our student-focused programs.
Our STEM program will also develop curriculum support for teachers (K-12) on a variety of environmental science topics.
We are also launching a Speakers Bureau, a free resource for educators to bring specific EPA researchers and other staff to their classroom or organization in the Greater Cincinnati area. Volunteer EPA speakers can provide grade-appropriate science, career, or other EPA-related presentations and lead interactive activities during regularly scheduled classes.
Student & Early Career Opportunities

EPA accepts applications from current students, recent graduates, and U.S. College/University faculty year round.
EPA-Cincinnati offers students experiences to supplement their knowledge, skills, and abilities developed in the classroom and university setting through our Student Co-Op Internship Program. Our world-class laboratories and professional settings give students the opportunity to learn about real world environmental challenges. This program gives students an opportunity to put what they learn in school into practice by providing work experience and job skills for success, benefitting both themselves and EPA. Working with college & university faculty, EPA-Cincinnati offers an opportunity to students to engage over their entire academic career.
Additional programs and opportunities for students and recent graduates are available on EPA's careers website.

About EPA-Cincinnati

The EPA laboratory in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a major federal facility that includes a large Office of Research and Development (ORD) presence. Scientists in Cincinnati conduct a wide range of environmental and public health research. ORD activities have significant impacts on the Greater Cincinnati region — which includes southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana — by advancing science, positively impacting the economy, and contributing to the local community.
EPA scientists develop methods, models, and tools that help states and communities assess environmental risks and, ultimately, make decisions to manage chemical risks, clean up hazardous waste sites, and safeguard water quality, public water systems, and public health.
Outside the Greater Cincinnati Area?

While some of these efforts are specific to the Greater Cincinnati area, virtual meeting tools, remote work capabilities, and our other EPA offices around the country make it possible for EPA-Cincinnati to connect with interested educators and other collaborators from anywhere.
