Adverse Outcome Pathway Wiki
To use data from new approach methodologies (NAMs) for chemical risk assessment and decision-making, it is important to understand their relevance for predicting or inferring adverse effects that could occur in exposed humans or ecosystems. Adverse outcome pathways (AOPs) are assemblies of scientific knowledge and evidence that provide this translational information.
Information assembled via the AOP framework is made available to the international community via the Adverse Outcome Pathway Wiki. The AOP-Wiki provides access to the AOP information via a web interface that supports browsing and searching for AOPs, Key Events, Key Event Relationships. The contents of the AOP-Wiki are developed under a crowd-sourced ethos, following guidance on development and scientific review developed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). All contents, whether still under development, peer-reviewed, or endorsed can be both viewed online as well as accessed computationally in XML format. Each page in the AOP-Wiki can be accessed and cited via a unique URL and while the content continues to evolve over time, citable PDF snapshots that capture the specific content at any moment in time can also be generated.
In addition, the AOP-Wiki provides a user the ability to create snapshots of each AOP in html and pdf formats, which can be used for offline access. The snapshots also represent a static version of the AOP and are currently used for the OECD review of AOPs that are part of the OECD AOP workplan. The AOP Wiki represents one module of a larger AOP knowledgebase, and content from all modules is available via a central e.AOP.Portal.
