Cleanup Status
On July 14, 2003, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and PADEP’s consultants conducted a site visit. The visit consisted of a site tour, and information gathering to assess the current status of the facility. EPA's Environmental Indicator Human Exposures was under control in March 30,2022 and Migration of Contaminated Water was under control in October 30,2020.
Site Description
The facility is located in the village of Muse, Washington County, Pennsylvania. The facility is currently inactive and no wastes are generated at the site. The facility manufactured synthetic resins for the foundry industry and compound chemicals for use in the foundry industry.
Contaminants at this Facility
Historically, volatile organic compounds (VOC) PCE and TCE were the primary VOCs detected in the groundwater near the Main Plant Area and 1,4-dioxane. However, 2020 data for MW-2, MW-6, MW-105, and MW-204 continues to demonstrate the overall decrease in reported parent compound concentrations of PCE and TCE. Also the concentrations of 1,4-dioxane detected in sentinel monitoring wells does not present a concern for exposure.
Institutional and Engineering Controls at this Facility
The need for Institutional Controls has yet to be determined.
Land Reuse Information at this Facility
The facility is unused.
Site Responsibility at this Facility
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action activities at this facility have been conducted under the direction of EPA Region 3.
