Compendium of Alternative Technologies to Open Burning and Open Detonation of Energetic Hazardous Wastes
The "Compendium of Alternative Technologies to Open Burning and Open Detonation of Energetic Hazardous Wastes" identifies alternative treatment technologies that can be used in place of open burning and open detonation of certain energetic hazardous wastes.
The identified alternative treatment technologies are facility- and waste-specific. This means that a technology identified or implemented for a single facility may not be suitable for another facility with a similar waste stream. The compendium allows for comparison of the waste streams that are to be evaluated against the waste streams that have been treated or identified for treatment in the listed technologies. It is intended to serve as a technical resource for permit agencies, facility owners and operators and others when evaluating potential alternative treatment options for explosive hazardous wastes.
EPA anticipates updating this compendium periodically, as needed, to incorporate new information related to identified and implemented alternative technologies for certain explosive waste streams. If you would like to submit information or feedback for EPA’s consideration, please email RCRApost@epa.gov.
