Public Notice: Revision to the Taconite Regional Haze Federal Implementation Plan Minnesota
Summary
EPA is proposing to revise a Federal Implementation Plan that will establish limits for nitrogen oxide at the United States Steel Company’s Keetac taconite facility in Keewatin, Minnesota. EPA is proposing these limits in accordance with the best available retrofit technology requirements in the Clean Air Act. The proposed emissions limits are approximately 40-45 percent lower than the current pollution levels at Keetac.
Public Hearing
EPA will also hold a virtual public hearing on May 12, 2025 for parties interested in presenting data, views, or arguments on the proposal. The hearing will convene at 9:00 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST) and will conclude at 1:00 p.m. CST, or 15 minutes after the last presenter in attendance has presented.

EPA is asking all hearing attendees to register, even those who do not intend to present. The last day to request to present at the hearing will be May 6, 2025. If no request to present at the virtual public hearing is received by 11:59 p.m. CDT on May 6, 2025, EPA will not hold the hearing.
EPA will announce the status of the hearing on May 7, 2025, on this webpage. If a virtual hearing is held, EPA will accept registrations until the start of the hearing. Additionally, interested parties may contact Mayesha Choudhury at 312-886-5909 on to find out if EPA is holding the hearing.
