EPA to Hold April 30 Open House for Charlevoix Municipal Well Superfund Site in Michigan
Attendees will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with representatives from multiple agencies about upcoming soil and groundwater cleanup
CHICAGO (April 23, 2025) – On Wednesday, April 30, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold an open house to discuss the start of construction activities at the Charlevoix Municipal Well Superfund site in Charlevoix, Michigan. Representatives from the EPA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy will provide information and answer questions about the contaminated soil and groundwater cleanup taking place this summer.

Construction activities will take place at multiple sites in Charlevoix beginning this May. The Corps of Engineers will demolish structures, remove and replace contaminated soil, and use cleanup technologies to reduce groundwater contamination. These technologies include soil vapor extraction and injecting carbon-rich amendments into the groundwater to absorb and degrade the contamination.
